Old Hampton bay ceiling fan meets new Hampton bay universal remote(98130, 72T)

Title says it all. Fan’s probably older than me and I’m 26. House is also older than me being built in 1983. This is how far I’ve come before coming for help. Ngl, I’m kinda proud of myself for getting this far.

Ceiling wires are Red, Black, White, and bare.

Controller has 2 wires being Red and white on one side and then 3 wires being Blue, White, and black on the other side.

I’ve connected white to white, black to black (supposedly black is the live wire), green to green with bare ground, and Red from ceiling to blue on wireless controller (read somewhere on the internet that works).

When I turn on the fan, only the lights turn on. When I press the fan button, the lights only turn on and off. No fan action.

Any ideas?

A:

I’m assuming you have an AC type motor on the fan given its age. So you are good on that point.

Out of the fan you should have the following wires

Black (or red) power to the fan Blue power to the light White neutral.

Out of your ceiling you have the following:

Black power to the fan Red power to the light White neutral.

On the controller, the three wires on the side go towards the fan. Black to black, blue to blue, and white to white.

On the controller, the two wires on the other side go towards the ceiling. Red to either the red or black from the ceiling, white to white.

The extra wire from the ceiling, you will need to cap it with a wire nut. It won’t be used in this situation.

Then lastly, wire all the green and bare copper wires together.
